WASHINGTON - The Business Software Alliance (BSA) applauded in a press release House Republicans for unveiling a seven-point policy agenda to encourage continued growth and innovation in America’s technology sector.

House Speaker John Boehner and other Republican leaders, along with Rep. Bob Goodlatte, chairman of the House Republican Technology Working Group, released their technology agenda for the 112th Congress at a press conference today on Capitol Hill.

“I commend the House Republican Technology Working Group for focusing attention on policies that are critically important to the software industry,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “The agenda unveiled today is noteworthy in several respects, starting with its emphasis on protecting American intellectual property from theft overseas. Rampant software piracy in China and other fast-growing technology markets inhibits US sales and exports, which stifles job creation.”

“The Republican technology agenda also highlights the need for strong cybersecurity protections that are designed to foster innovation and dynamism in the face of evolving threats,” Holleyman noted. “More broadly, the agenda outlined today focuses on market fundamentals conducive to growth and innovation — from tax policy to workforce development to free and fair trade. BSA looks forward to working with Congress on these important policy priorities.”

The Business Software Alliance is the world’s foremost advocate for the software industry, working in 80 countries to expand software markets and create conditions for innovation and growth.
