US Ambassador Commends Human Development Partnership at the Talal Abu Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum

US Ambassador Commends Human Development Partnership at the Talal Abu Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum

AMMAN - US Ambassador to Jordan, Stuart Jones told a standing room only audience at the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum that he is proud of the United States’ collaboration with Jordan in human development efforts across the Kingdom.

The Ambassador highlighted the United States' partnership with Jordan in human development and educational programming.  As he said during his remarks: “when I think about our partnership, I think the most important aspect is our collaboration in human development.”  He observed how joint investments and efforts with Jordan have resulted in significant school improvements benefitting more than 250,000 students across the Kingdom.  The Ambassador also highlighted the way these programs affect individuals and communities.  For example, he shared the story of a young student, who thanks to the Access English language scholarship program, learned English, which she uses today at her university.  He also explained how construction and equipment assistance coupled with training in rural hospitals is helping decrease infant mortality in areas such as south Shouneh.  Ambassador Jones noted that a neo-natal ward he visited last spring “has saved the lives of more than 30 infants in two years.”


The Ambassador illustrated the ways the US has collaborated with the King Abdullah II Development Fund to help aspiring Jordanian entrepreneurs through the Oasis 500 boot camp program.  The Ambassador also commended Talal Abu-Ghazaleh’s “tremendous contribution” to business education in Jordan.  The Ambassador underscored the importance of investment in human capacity building saying: “We are proud to invest in the people of Jordan.  And we are investing in education, training, health, and work force development.” 

Meanwhile, HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh welcomed His Excellency Ambassador Stuart E. Jones and the attendees and thanked the US government and its agencies for supporting Jordan in all fields.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh greeted HE Dr. Amin Mahmoud, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research highlighting his directions and contributions in the education field  in Jordan.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that Education worldwide is lagging digitally in Jordan and the region requesting bailing out universities which should not continue as real estate companies, because we need high quality education and highly developed educational programs as well as universities without walls.

He said that teachers have a role in this digital age and must be qualified to become leaders and technical facilitators as recommended by Harvard and Cambridge Universities, he also called on rehabilitation of schools for kids who are digitally beginners and have drank the Internet through the milk bottle and to stop the Arabizi phenomenon by using Shakespearean English. 

He noted that the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Univeristy aims to achieve demoratization of high class accredited education for all and not for those who can afford it, pointing out that al Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization’s activities, operations and business shall be conducted through the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh private cloud.

He also underlined that TAG-Org is working to promoting the smart school and smart school bag and on the promotion of the digital learning starting from t\he kindergarten level and on the teaching of the English language via the Internet in addition to teaching the informational technology electronically at a global level.

Abu-Ghazaleh announced that the Organization is also working on the launch of 100 Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge centers (TAG-Knowlwdge) to upgrade IT culture and fluency in utilization of English language throughout the Kingdom’s governorates.

Moreover, he referred to TAG-Org’s preparations to hold in cooperation with the UNESCO a regional conference on the use of ICT in education in the Arab countries.

At the closing of his speech, he stressed on the need of a Jordanian program to change education and benefit from the directives of HM King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein and HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah and their support and concern to accomplish this significant national project.

After the talk, participants engaged the Ambassador in a lively dialogue on human capacity and education.

The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum, which sponsored the talk, was established to provide the business community with a platform for debate and assessment of business and economy in Jordan and around the world.  The Forum regularly hosts a range of experts and leaders in their fields to discuss economic, cultural and educational development in the Arab world.  Most recently, the forum has been dedicating its efforts on education.
