National Bank of Bahrain Implements New Law on Personal Data Protection

MANAMA – National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) announced in a press release that it is the first bank in the Kingdom leading the efforts to comply with the new Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) which came into effect in Bahrain on August 1, 2019. In line with NBB’s focus on customer centricity, the Bank has moved swiftly to adhere to the new law aimed at protecting the personal data of customers.

Under the PDPL, organisations are required to obtain the consent of their customers to continue to communicate with them. NBB is using its ATM network to obtain its customers consent in a digital, easy and efficient way.  As NBB continues to upgrade its technology it will deploy additional features to manage personal data in a simpler way during next year.

Commenting, Subah A. Latif AlZayani, Head of Retail at NBB, said, “As we continue our path in innovation and development of our digital services, we at NBB are mindful of the importance of compliance with the laws and regulations aimed at safeguarding customer information. We adopt a parallel consideration of leadership in digital innovations and legal and regulatory compliance to deliver a secure digital experience for our customers.”

Also, Nabeel Ahmed Mustafa, Head of Network Management & Strategy at NBB stated “Prioritizing and simplifying the customer’s journey is key to NBB’s success, therefore we have started to utilize our wide range of accessible ATMs across the country to obtain customers’ consents in a ‘green’, digitized way to improve the customer experience”.
