LOS ANGELES – The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced in press release that it has revised the Protection of International Governmental Organization (IGO) and International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) Identifiers in All gTLDs Policy, to reflect an updated reserved names list for certain Red Cross and Red Crescent names at the second level of the Domain Name System (DNS).
This policy update is the implementation of the consensus policy developed by the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) and adopted by the ICANN Board in January 2019. ICANN generic top-level domain (gTLD) contracted parties (registries and registrars) will have until 1 August 2020 to comply and update their reserved names.
