LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced in a press release that it has launched the ICANN Community Anti-Harassment Training online course on ICANN Learn. This 30-minute course provides ICANN's global community members with the information, tools, and resources they need to identify and address different forms of harassment.

The ICANN Board formed a working group to oversee ICANN organization's (org) efforts to raise awareness and improve understanding of the current ICANN Community Anti-Harassment Policy and Terms of Participation and Complaint Procedure. As one of its key priorities and oversight responsibilities, the Board Working Group on Anti-Harassment published the Anti-Harassment Policy Implementation: Best Practices Research report and later recommended that ICANN org create an anti-harassment training course and offer it on the ICANN Learn platform. ICANN org gathered community input, and in the process incorporated anti-harassment policy implementation best practices. The course covers areas such as bullying, disrespect, misconduct, and bystander intervention.

"We are delighted to see this work come to fruition," said Sarah Deutsch, chair of the Board Working Group. "This is an important step in our collective efforts to secure an environment of mutual respect, support, and collegiality for everyone in ICANN's global community."

ICANN's community leaders are strongly encouraged to take the course and share their observations and key takeaways with their respective groups. This would help raise awareness and encourage the wide-spread adoption of the training throughout the ICANN community.

The course will be a prerequisite for individuals participating in ICANN's newcomer programs, such as the ICANN Fellowship and NextGen@ICANN. Similarly, it will be included in the list of prerequisites for the ICANN Leadership Program, which brings together current and future leaders from across ICANN communities. Community groups are also encouraged to include the course as part of their onboarding efforts.

"These steps complement and enhance ongoing efforts from the Office of the Ombuds on this topic," said Herb Waye, ICANN's Ombudsman, who highlighted the importance of these efforts, adding, "They provide additional context and clarity around existing policies and practices, and help us better understand how to deal with potential concerns or avoid them altogether."

The course is presented in English, and translations will be available in the coming months in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish.

The Board and org look forward to continuing to work closely together to secure an environment of mutual respect, support, and collegiality for everyone in ICANN's global community.
