LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organization (org) delivered the Operational Design Assessment (ODA), the final product of the New Generic Top-Level Domain Subsequent Procedures (SubPro) Operational Design Phase (ODP), to the ICANN Board of Directors, a press release stated by ICANN.

The SubPro ODA presents ICANN org's analysis and potential designs to implement and operationalize the SubPro Final Report outputs. The ODA is intended to aid the ICANN Board in its consideration of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) policy recommendations from the Final Report on the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process (Final Report). Should the Board adopt these recommendations, ICANN org will work with the community to design and build the next round for generic top-level domains.

As outlined in the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Operational Design Phase Scoping document, ICANN org assessed the dependencies, potential risks, projected resource requirements, anticipated costs, timelines, assumptions, interaction with the Global Public Interest Framework, and other matters related to the potential implementation of the more than 300 outputs of the Final Report. The Final Report outputs include affirmations, recommendations, and implementation guidance.

Over the course of the SubPro ODP, ICANN org engaged with the ICANN community to gather input and ensure a transparent process. This outreach included three community webinars and updates provided during ICANN74 and ICANN75 public meetings, briefings to the Governmental Advisory Committee, the GNSO Council, and others, and meeting regularly with the GNSO Council liaison for questions relating to the recommendations. The org also published four Community Status Updates, seven sets of assumptions, and 13 SubPro ODP blogs highlighting the work tracks and progress of the ODP.

On 14 December 2022 from 13:00–15:00 and 20:00–22:00 UTC, ICANN org will present key findings of the SubPro ODA, including business process designs based on the SubPro recommendations, the estimated timelines, and costs for implementation. This community-facing webinar will include a question-and-answer period. The same presentation will be given in both webinars. The presentations will be interpreted in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish; recorded; and posted on icann.org.
