LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that the applications for the Asia Pacific Internet Governance Academy (APIGA) 2023 will open on May 1, 2023 00:00 KST (UTC+9). Hosted by ICANN and the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA), APIGA will be held from July 24–28, 2023 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, a press release stated by ICANN.

What is APIGA?

Launched in 2016, APIGA is a 5-day capacity development program focused on Internet governance (IG) targeted at youths in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Through the program, participants will build a strong foundation in IG fundamentals. This includes guided pathways to continue participating in the IG space such as ICANN, the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Society (ISOC), and various other IG fora.

Participants will learn via immersive, hands-on sessions with dedicated mentoring by regional industry experts. They will also build a strong network with peers, APIGA alumni, leading APAC Internet organizations and key APAC community leaders.

Past data shows that one in four APIGA alumni continue to participate in the IG fora locally, regionally, and globally.

Who can apply?

Individuals from the APAC region between the ages of 18 and 35 (both ages inclusive) and are interested in Internet governance issues are welcome to apply. Applications closes on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 23:59 KST (UTC+9).
